Radio Network Optimization

1. Introduction

An Optimum network is what all Operators strive to achieve.  Optimization is the process of improving the operation of the network to better utilise available infrastructure to provide customers of the service the best possible quality of service.  The process maximises the efficiency and operability, of the existing installed infrastructure.

The process integrates all infrastructures so that it operates seamlessly, it configures the network, sets parameters so as to maximise the performance of the network.

Throughout the life span of a PLMN, its logical and physical configuration will evolve, requiring consist changes of varying degrees and frequency.  These changes are the optimization process that strives to maximise the utilisation of the available network resources to provide the best quality of service to the customers as possible.  The optimization process will effect these changes through network engineering of configuration management activities.

An ideal Optimization process utilises the minimum cost, time & resources to increase the efficiency of the network.

2. Purpose of this Document

This website describes our recommended workflow process structure in the optimization process.  It specifies issues to be considered and actions to be taken when optimising the radio networks. Flowcharts are presented to simplify the step by step procedure when embarking on the optimization mission.
